Let's learn about "지성/건성"

1. 지성 has the following three meanings

1) 지성 : [至誠] [=지극한 정성] perfect[absolute] sincerity; [=헌신] devotion; wholeheartedness

- 지성스럽게 : sincerely[devotedly] / with all one's heart

- 지성이면 감천이라 : <속담(proverb)> Sincerity moves[can move] heaven

2) 지성 : [知性] [=지적 능력] intellect; intelligence; mentality

- 지성적(인) : intellectual / intelligent

- 지성적인 여자 : an intellectual woman / a woman of intellect.

- 지성에 호소하다 : appeal to the intellect

- 그는 높은 지성을 갖고 있다 : He is highly intellectual

- 그 사람에게 지성이 있는지 의심스럽다 : I suspect he is not very intellectually oriented

- 지성미 : beauty enhanced by intellect

- 지성인 : an intellectual; a highbrow

3) 지성 : [脂性] [피부 타입] oily

- 지성 피부 : oily skin

- 제 피부는 지성입니다 : My skin is oily

2. 건성 has the following two meanings

1) 건성 : half-heartedness; inattention; lack of attention; abstraction; absent-mindedness

- 건성으로 : abstractedly / carelessly / mechanically / aimlessly / without purpose / for nothing / absent-mindedly / vacantly / inattentively / half-heartedly

- 건성으로 읽다 : read inattentively

- 건성으로 듣다 : listen to in an absent sort of way / let go in one ear and out the other

- 건성으로 대답하다 : answer inattentively[in a halfhearted way]

- 건성으로 인사하다 : give a curt[perfunctory]greeting / greet a person unceremoniously

- 그의 마음은 건성이다 : His mind is faraway

- 건성으로 듣고 있으니까 모르지 : You cannot understand it, because you do not pay due attention (to it)

- 그는 언제나 내말을 건성으로 듣는다 : He always listens to me absent-mindedly

2) 건성 : [乾性] dryness

- 건성의 : dry

- 건성유 : drying oil
