Let's learn about "일시"

1. 일시 : [一時] has the following three meanings

1) [=한때] once; at one[a] time

- 나는 일시 전직을 진지하게 생각했었다 : At one time I seriously thought of changing jobs

- 이 도시는 일시 수출 산업의 중심지로서 번영했다 : This town once enjoyed prosperity as the center of the export industry

2) [=동시에 = 일시에] one time; the same time

- 일시에 : at the same time / all at once / simultaneously

- 학생들이 일시에 떠들기 시작했다 : The students got noisy all at once

- 모든 청중이 일시에 일어섰다 : Simultaneously the whole audience stood up

- 선거의 개표가 전국에서 일시에 시작된다 : Ballot counting will begin simultaneously throughout the country

3) [잠시] for a time; momentarily; temporarily

- 그의 명성도 일시에 지나지 않았다 : His fame was only momentary

- 산사태로 인해서 경춘선 전 구간이 일시 불통되었다 : Owing to a landslide, train service was temporarily suspended on the whole of the Kyongch'unson

- 기숙사가 만원이어서 근처에서 일시 하숙하기로 했다 : Since the student dormitory is full, I have decided to stay in a rooming house nearby for the time being

4) Usages

- 일시금 : a lump sum; a one-time allowance

- 회사는 퇴직자에게 일시금을 지불한다 : The company gives an allowance in a lump sum to retiring employees

- 일시 금지 조치 : a moratorium

- 핵실험의 일시 금지 조치 : a moratorium on nuclear testing

- 일시 미봉책 : a stopgap remedy

- 일시 보관 : temporary custody

- 수화물을 일시 보관시키다 : check one's baggage / leave one's things at a cloakroom[checkroom]

- 일시 보관소 : a cloakroom; a checkroom;  a left luggage office

- 일시 보관증 : a claim check

- 일시불 : payment in a lump sum

- 일시불로 지불하다 : pay in a lump sum

- 일시 소득 : occasional[temporary]income

- 일시 정지 : <표지(notice)> Stop

- 철도 건널목에서 일시 정지를 하다 : stop before crossing the railroad tracks

- 일시 차입금 : a floating debt; a temporary loan

- 일시 출판 : a fugitive publication

- 일시 해고 : a layoff

- 일시 해고 제도 : a layoff system

2. 일시 : [日時] [=날과 때] the day and time; [=날짜와 시간] the date and hour

- 출발 일시 : the time and date of the departure

- 일시는 변경[지정]할 수 없다 : The date and time cannot be changed[fixed]

- 모임의 일시를 변경합니다 : We will put off the date of the meeting
