Question about "sorry"(죄송합니다)

What would you say when you feel sorry for something that has happened to a person? Because in English we say ‘I’m sorry’ but in Korean we can’t say ‘죄송합니다’ right?

We often say sorry according to the age of him or her.

We usually say "죄송합니다”. But when you feel sorry you can say it like these in Korean

1) To the younger or To the same age friendly

- 미안해. (very often)

- 미안하다.

- 미안하군. (if a teller is a male)

- 미안해요. (with a little honorific)

2) To the same age unfriendly or the a little older familar

- 미안해요 (very often)

- 미안합니다. (very often)

- 미안하군요. (if a teller is a male)

- 죄송해요. (very often)

- 죄송합니다. (often)

3) Regardless age unfamiliar if not the very elder

- 죄송해요. (very often)

- 미안합니다. (very often)

- 죄송합니다. (often)

4) To the very elder familar

- 미안합니다. (often)

- 죄송합니다. (very often)

- 송구스럽습니다. (if my fault is big)

5) To the very elder unfamilar

- 죄송합니다. (very often)

- 송구스럽습니다. (if my fault is big)
