[어말 어미(an ending suffix)]

1. 동사 어간이나 형용사 ‘있다’·‘없다’·‘계시다’의 어간 또는 높임의 ‘-시-’나 시제의 ‘-았(었)-’·‘-겠-’ 등에 붙는, 연결 어미 또는 종결 어미. : This is attched to the root stem of a verb. and This is attached to the root stem of an adjextive like “있다”(exist), “없다”(not exist), “계시다”(there is a elder person in some place). Also this is attached to “-시-“(a suffix makes a verb honourific) or “-았/었-“(a suffix makes a verb past tense) or “-겠-“(a suffix shows a guess)

1) 뒷말을 끌어내기 위하여 이와 대립되는 어떤 전제를 베풀어 말하는 뜻을 나타냄. : a connecting descriptive suffix say some premise to bring out the facts behind it.

비가 오는데 어딜 가셨나 : Where have you been in the rain?
푹 잤는데 왜 이리 피곤하지 : Why am I so tired even slept fully ?

2) 뒤에 자세한 설명이 잇따름을 뜻하는 말. a word follows the detail explanation.

(1) 사람들이 그러는데 거기는 위험하대요. : People say it's dangerous there

2. 자기 말에 남의 동의를 구하는 투로, 스스로의 가벼운 느낌을 담아 끝맺는 말. (참고) “-ㄴ데”
an descriptive ending suffix expresses a person's agreement or opinion in one's words; a light feeling or regret. (See.) “-ㄴ데”
