“좀” is very frequently used in Korean language.
this originally is a short form of “조금”(a small quantity; a little; a light; slightly; lightly; few; little; bit). but this has another meaning like “how” or “please” or “just”
1. <부사[副詞](adverb)>
1) 《의문문이나 반어적 문장에 쓰이어》 “그 얼마나. 오죽”을 의미함 : this means “how much ~” or “very, indeed”. this is used in a question or an ironic sentence.
【ex】 아직 아침도 못 먹었다니 배가 좀 고플까 ? : I wonder if you're hungry because you haven't even had breakfast yet
2) <조금>의 준말 : this a short form of “조금”(few; little)
【ex】 이게 좀 낫다 : this is better (than that)
3) 어떤 일에 대하여 요구나 동의를 구할 때 흔히 쓰는 말 : this is used when asking a request or agreement of somebody about some thing
【ex】 그것 좀 주시겠습니까 ? : can i have that ?
2. <명사[名詞](noun)>
1) ‘겉으로 크게 드러나지 않고 어떤 사물에 조금씩 해를 끼치는 사람이나 물건’을 비유하여 이르는 말 : this refers to 'someone or thing that does harm to an object a little bit by bit, rather than being exposed as a large part.'
【ex】 좀이 쑤시다 : i am a raring to do it. i am a itching to do it.
the above means “무엇이 하고 싶어 안절부절못하다. 가만히 참고 기다리지 못하다”(be impatient for something to do; cannot wait patiently)
<“좀” Usage>
1) 좀 더 크게 이야기 해 주세요? :Can you speak louder please ?
2) 이것 좀 가지고 가 주세요 : Can you carry this for me ?
3) 소금 좀 건네 주세요 : Will you pass me the salt please ?
4) 재미 있는 제안이야. 그게 좀 고려야겠다 : An interesting proposal. Need to think it over
5) 이것 좀 고쳐 주세요 : Can you fix this ?
