1) 성 and 별 is Hanja (koreanized chinese charcter)
2) “성별[性別] ” means “sex (the distinction of male and female)”
<about “성”>
1) if 성 is Hanja [星], it means “[=행성] a planet”.
2) if 성 is Hanja [姓], it means last name[surname, family name].
3) if 성 is Hanja [性]. it means (1) sex (남녀[男女] : male and female) (2) [=본성] nature (3) gender (=남녀 구별, 남녀 구분).
* 성별[性別] : the distinction of sex <— 성(sex) + 별(distinction)
